Health Care Program at HONFablab
Beginning in July 2012, Fablab Yogyakarta (HONFablab) enters fourth phase of their 2011-2013 project series. In this phase, HONFablab under HONF Foundation works together with Fablab Amsterdam under Waag Society to engage in what we call the “Low-Cost Prosthesis” Project.
The project aims to develop a low-cost fabrication method for below-knee prostheses that utilize local materials and meet ergonomics and aesthetics standards. The method can thus be shared to and applied by any individuals and institutions in need of prostheses.
Since 2008, we have been conducting research in cooperation with YAKKUM Rehabilitation Centre (Pusat Rehabilitasi YAKKUM), a non-governmental social organization located at Jl. Kaliurang km 13, Yogyakarta, to collect data on orthotics, standards and guidelines, socioeconomic conditions, and therapy techniques for the amputees.
We have set up a website for detailed information and updates on the project at http://www.lowcostprosthesis.org.
What Can You Do in Fablab Yogyakarta?

Fab Lab (FABrication LABoratory) is a small-scale workshop offering digital fabrication, which is generally equipped with an array of flexible computer controlled tools that cover several different length scales and various materials, with the aim to make "almost anything". This includes technology-enabled products generally perceived as limited to mass production.
Fablab is a local laboratory connected with other Fablabs around the world in a global network where everyone can engage in a creative learning process, share ideas and techniques, and even open their design among one another.
Fablab Yogyakarta, commonly known as HONFablab, was created in accordance with the vision and mission of the House of Natural Fiber (HONF)'s EFP (Education Focus Program). The EFP is a program carried out by HONF and conducted independently during a period of more than 10 years.
The EFP is a curriculum that concentrates on interdisciplinary scientific exchange and collaboration in the critical analysis of issues that arise from existing circumstances. This triggers the processing of innovative ideas to find the best solution for the problems. The EFP mainly aims to build an open mindset and mentality in society by bridging the arts, science and technology through educational activities in a continuous nature.
