Carving GARUDA
by BASK.
Today I made slide puzzle with Garuda carved on each puzzle part. I ordered the puzzle shaped custom made by carpenter and its made from jack fruit tree, solid and hard wood. The puzzle idea was made since I will be part of an exhibition in Yogyakarta, Garuda deformation theme.
So I wanted to carve the Garuda symbol (of course its a deformation from its original) on each of puzzle box and I wanted very precizely using the 2mm end mill. The vector was made on coreldraw and edited with partwork to work on each part of Garuda symbol; Head, neck, wings, tail, claws and shield.
It is quite challenging since each of the box shape of puzzle is ready sized 25cm x 25cm, and we lay it down on shopbot (sticked with double sided tape) on its desired formation. And its also not the same level we have so I was affraid it might break the end mill :(
but with special setting (slow speed) I manage to done it as I imagined
The setting we use:
speed: 12
jog speed: 6
RPM: 8000
Cut depth: 3mm
pass depth: 1,5mm
and the result is really good! (and the end mill is still in one piece!)
